I’m always talking about the Instagram braiding community. I can’t help it! It’s my happy place. It’s my place where I get inspired.
I recently held a contest on my Instagram page to find the best Valentine’s day hairstyles. I had just planned on picking 10 of my favorite to write about here, but there were too many that I loved to narrow it down to just 10! So today I’m bringing you the 20 Best Valentine’s Day Hairstyles from my contest. The title of this post says for girls – but some of these are perfect for tweens, teens and mamas too.
I’ve noted and linked to any tutorials for these styles (or similar styles) below. If there is no note of a tutorial, then I’m not aware of any that exist for that style. I understand that can be frustrating if it’s a style that you’d really like to recreate yourself! Regardless, I hope that these hairstyles can still inspire you and that you can appreciate the art that is braiding!
I absolutely love this heart style by Insta braider @vlechtidee, Inge Donker – a braider and art teacher from The Netherlands. This hairstyle is a piece of art. I don’t want to look away! For the outer braid, she has used what she calls a Festonstitch – and she has a tutorial for that technique here.
This beautiful hairstyle was done by Insta braider @abbysbraids. I don’t know of any tutorial for this. She did a rope braid back on either side into two 4 strand ribbon braids. It looks great with the soft curls!
This hairstyle is a sock bun with a 4 strand ribbon braided heart done by Insta braider @jane_haircraft. I don’t know of any tutorial on this style. To do this, you would use a bun maker. Keep some hair hanging down from the very bottom of the ponytail and don’t include this in your bun. Make the bun following the bun maker instructions. Then go back and take the hair that you left out and do two 4 strand ribbon braids. Lay them around the edges of the bun to form a heart and tuck the ends into the center of your bun.
This pretty hairstyle was done by Insta braider @365goodhairdays. I don’t know of any tutorials for this specific style. She has taken and flipped a half up ponytail, then done two regular 3 strand braids on each side and laced them together with ribbon.
This little one is such a cutie! Her hair was done by her mum (she’s British, so have to go with mum vs. mom lol), Insta braider @sarah_likes_hair. There is a tutorial for this pretty lace braided heart by Cute Girls Hairstyles here.
This creative heart hairstyle was done by Insta braider @riileh. There is not a tutorial for this hairstyle. It’s two Dutch braids on either sides with the ends wrapped around and pinned under the opposite side. Then she has done a beautiful braided flower in the center.
I’m in love with this hairstyle! This was done by Insta braider @marissshaarcreaties. It’s so complex but perfect. I don’t think I could get my girls to sit long enough to do this one right now, but it’s on the list for one day! There is not any tutorial for this hairstyle that I know of. It’s a 9 strand braid around the head with a braided heart part.
This pretty hairstyle was done by Insta braider @thehairlook. I’ll be honest. I’m not sure exactly how she did this style! There is no tutorial that I know of… but it’s just stunning!
This sweet hairstyle was done by Insta braider @bieamanda. A tutorial for the heart part and braid has been done by Abella’s Braids and can be found here. The only difference from that tutorial would be that once you have the heart part in a ponytail, you want to follow the heart ponytail tutorial from Ice Braids found here.
This is a sweet hairstyle great for toddlers and little ones with less hair for you to work with. This style was done by Insta braider @brownhairedbliss. She took a section of hair and pulled it into a little ponytail on top, then flipped it, split the ponytail in two, twisted the hair and brought it together in a heart shape and secured with an elastic. It’s easy and so darling!
This pretty style was done by Insta braider @lauralaine_hair. This is another style that was done on a little one with hair that isn’t too thick or long yet. A tutorial for this ribbon laced heart by Babes in Hairland can be found here.
This heart hairstyle was done by Insta braider @jfebraids. She did a heart part and then Dutch braided the hair from the heart, continued it into a three strand braid which she pulled across the back of the head into a side ponytail, then finished the ponytail by doing a 5 strand ribbon braid. It’s so darling!
This cutie is back again! Here is another style done by Insta braider @sarah_likes_hair. She did a lace braided heart (tutorial by Cute Girls Hairstyles can be found here) and then finished it by French braiding the rest of the hair and taking the ends of her lace braids into the French braid. Not too hard but so very cute!
This sweet, fast heart hairstyle was done by Insta braider @ashley_cardon. There is a tutorial for a similar hairstyle called Triple Hearts by Princess Hairstyles that can be found here. This one would work great for shorter hair too!
This little darling had her hair done by her mom, Insta braider@ashley_cardon. I love this sweet look and BONUS – you can see that it worked wonderful on her shorter hair! A tutorial for a similar style, the boho lace tieback by Cute Girls Hairstyles, can be found here.
This pretty and subtle heart hairstyle was done by Insta braider @hairstyles_by_shannon. She did this hairstyle after seeing a video that went viral on Facebook – maybe you saw it too? I know I had it posted to my personal FB wall a couple of times. Cute Girls Hairstyle did a tutorial for this style and called it the Mermaid Heart Braid, the tutorial can be found here.
I know that I already have listed 20 of the BEST Valentine’s Day hairstyles for girls (and more!), but I wanted to share one last style with you. This style is one that I did called a corset braided heart and a tutorial for it can be found here.
I hope this post helps give you some ideas on what to do with hairstyles for this Valentine’s Day! I also think that hearts are just super sweet and can be worn year round, so I hope you leave here inspired. Thanks for reading!
