I love braiding with ribbon. It gives you such an unique look, and you can match the ribbon to go with your outfit or occasion – such fun, right? And it looks so much more difficult than it really is!
Ever since I mastered a 5 Strand Dutch Ribbon Braid, I’ve thought that it would look cool with 3 different colors of ribbon. I tried it recently in honor of Cinco de Mayo and was delighted that it worked!
I knew it would be the perfect style to film with red, white and blue in honor of Independence Day or the 4th of July here in the US. I’ve also added a star to accent the style in today’s tutorial to make it an even more patriotic one for my fellow American’s — but whether you are American or not this is a really cool hairstyle and you can pick out any 3 colors of ribbon to fit your braiding occasion.
Today’s tutorial could be called a “5 Strand Dutch Ribbon Braid with 3 Colors or Pieces of Ribbon” — but let’s just call it the 3 Color Ribbon braid because that’s a mouthful. 😉
Let’s get started!
The instructions for this style are really hard to type out (I tried, oh how I tried) so I will just defer to the video on this one. It was just a confusing jumble of words — so watch the video for me. It’s one of those styles that is easier to see being done and understand than it is to read.
Here is the completed look from today’s tutorial. I chose to do a wrap around 3 color braid to go with my elastic, but you can do the braid straight down the back of the head if you’d like too.
I hope that you’ll give this 3 Color Ribbon Braid a try! If you do, I would love to see how it turns out for you! You can share it on my Facebook page, tag me in your photo on Instagram @hair_by_lori or use hashtag #HBL3ColorRibbonBraid so that I can find it.
Thank you so much for reading! I hope that you’ll come back soon.
