Today’s challenge is the 4 strand braid. The 4 strand braid is so easy to do, easier than most people realize, I think. If you have never tried it before – don’t be intimidated by braiding with multiple strands. You’re going to love it!
If you already know how to do a 4 strand braid, I’ve found some great tutorials showing you other ways of doing the braid. Give one of them a try!
This tutorial that I did teaches the basic technique. You can find my original post on how to do the 4 strand braid here. I show it done in a ponytail because I think that’s the easiest way to learn it if you have never done it before, but there really are so many ways that you can use the technique!
This tutorial done by YaYaLifestyle shows an alternate way of doing the 4 strand braid. I had someone else share with me that this is how they do their own 4 strands and tell me that they were doing it wrong – but I say if it works, it’s not wrong! It’s just different. My personal preference is the way that I teach though (and the rest of the tutorials in this post teach) because I think it looks cool the way that the center strand looks – but you make up your own mind and decide what your preference is. Either way, it’s not wrong, it’s just what you like!
French 4 Strand Braid with a microbraid tutorial by Braidsandstyles12. This is beautiful and certainly looks mature enough that an older girl or woman can wear it, but it’d also look great on a little girl. You could do it straight back down the head too.
Dutch 4 Strand Braid tutorial by HairAndNailsInspiration. I love how they figured out a way to make this braid Dutch, so clever!
8 Strand Pull Back Braid tutorial by Jenni’s Hairdays (she writes in Finnish and English, if you go to her post – scroll down for English). This beautiful 8 strand pull back braid is actually two 4 strand braids woven together, which is why it’s included in today’s post. It gives you the look of a very complicated braid but is rather easy to do.
