4 Strand Bubble Braid || Back to School Hairstyle

Great back to school hairstyle! Quick and easy, love this cute hairstyle

It’s hard to believe it’s time to start thinking about back to school hairstyles already!!  Where did the summer go?!  While I’m not entirely thrilled thinking about summer coming to an end anytime soon, I AM thrilled about back to school hairstyles — because really, they are my favorite kind of hairstyles year round!  I love quick, easy hairstyles that will hold up through a busy school day (or any other day for that matter!).

Today’s 4 strand bubble braid is a great hairstyle to add in to your go to school hairstyles list.  Not only is it quick and easy to do, but it will hold up nicely all day long… or a couple of days if you’re like me! 😉  I’m teaching this hairstyle with a 4 strand braid, but feel free to mix it up and try out a regular 3 strand braid, a rope braid, a fishtail braid, etc. for a whole variety of hairstyles that are simple to do and will stay put through a day of play,  sports or other activities.

How to do a 4 Strand Bubble Braid – Back to School Hairstyle

Tools you will need: hairbrush, a ponytail elastic, a couple of clear elastics, colored elastics of your choice, optional – topsy tail, hairspray

Time to complete: 5-7 minutes

Skill Level:  Easy

Step 1.  Begin by pulling the hair into a ponytail. Feel free to skip this next step if you like, I just like how polished it makes it look. Stick a topsy tail in through the bottom of the ponytail, take a small section of hair and wrap it around a couple of times and then put the end of that section through my topsy tail. Now gently pull on the end of your topsy tail and voila, an easy hair wrapped ponytail!

Step 2.  Pick up a section of hair from the top of the ponytail. Divide it into 4 equal parts. Take your left most strand over the strand next to it, under the next and then over the last strand. Now your two middle strands switch places. Repeat this process, always picking up your left most stand and moving it all the way to the right side by going OVER, UNDER, OVER. Then switch the middle two strands and begin it again. Braid this way all the way down.

Step 3.  Now hold on to the end of your braid and gently pinch and pull the edges of your 4 strand braid to make it look more full. I like to start at the bottom and work my way up, doing one side and then the other this way. Then secure the braid with an elastic and go back and pull on the edges more if you need to even it out.

Step 5.  Lay the braid on top of the ponytail, then go down a little and secure it with an elastic. Gently pull on the edges of the hair in that ponytail you just created to round it out and give it a bubble effect. Go down the same distance and repeat this. You can count the middle stitch of your 4 strand braid to make sure you are making these bubbles equal size – I put my elastic over every 3rd stitch of the braid.  If you run out of braid before you run out of hair in the ponytail, you can continue with an additional bubble or two or you can just leave it as is, like I did.

That’s it, you’re done!  You can spray with hairspray if you’d like and/or add a cute hair accessory to the top of the ponytail to finish off the look.
