We are mid-July already (how did that happen?!) and are enjoying summer at our house. With the heat and sun comes easy summer hair, at least for me. I love quick, cute styles and I LOVE ones with a bit of a bohemian feel to them. I think that this boho braidbacks hairstyle is just perfect for summer!
Today I have a tutorial for this super simple style that anyone can do. I’ve done something new in it and I’ve tried flat iron waves! I’ve seen some images on Pinterest showing how you can take a braid and run your flat iron over to create waves. I was curious how well it worked, so I tried it out in today’s video! I think it worked pretty well and gives a cool look. I hope you’ll check out the video and let me know if it’s a technique that you would ever use.
Let’s get started on this boho braidback with flat iron waves tutorial!
Step 1. Braid all of the hair into at least 4 different regular 3 strand braids. I just did 4 braids here, but if you want more or tighter waves, you can do more than 4 braids.
Step 2. Apply heat protectant. You could apply this before you braid the hair if you’d prefer.
Step 3. Take your flat iron and run it along the braids a few times. You don’t want to leave it sit in any one spot for too long, but run it along the braid as you would if you were straightening it.
Step 4. Optional (I don’t show it in the video) – you can wait for the braids to cool or take a blow dryer and use the cool setting on it to cool the braids before you take them out. This will help to lock in the waves.
Step 5. Optional – you can take dry shampoo and spray it on the hair and work in with your fingers to add a bit of texture and volume.
Step 1. Start a couple of inches back from the face, pick up a section of hair and start a 3 strand braid. Angle the braid so that is going down towards the back of her head. Braid until it will reach to the nape of the neck.
Step 2. Go back and pull the edges of the braid (pancake it) to give the braid a full look.
Step 3. Repeat steps 2 & 3 on the other side of the head, making sure the two braids are going to meet at the center of the back of the head by the neck.
Step 4. Secure the two braids together with an elastic.
Step 5. Take a small section of hair from the bottom of the elastic and wrap it around the elastic a couple of times and then you can either use your fingers to lift up the back of the elastic and tuck the hair through it or use a topsy tail to pull it through the elastic. This hides the elastic and gives you a more finished look.
