Christmas Wreath Hairstyle for Short Hair

Video Tutorial: Christmas Wreath Hairstyle For Short Hair

This post is part of my 12 Braids of Christmas series – be sure to check out all the festive styles in this series!

Since cutting my 3 year old daughter Grace’s hair this past summer to donate, I have been thinking more and more about cute hairstyles that can be done on short hair.  I didn’t want Gracie or any other girls with short hair to miss out on fun Christmas hairstyles, so I made sure to plan 4 tutorials in to my 12 Braids of Christmas series that work on short hair.  Short hair should be fun too!

Out of the 4 tutorials that I filmed on Grace for this Christmas hair series, this is the only one that can’t be done on longer hair.  This Christmas wreath hairstyle is just for short hair.  It works great on a short bob like Grace has, but could be done on hair up to a few inches longer than her bob.  If you are looking for a wreath hairstyle to do on hair that is longer than that, check out this Christmas Wreath Braid Hairstyle tutorial.

How to do the Christmas Wreath Hairstyle for Short Hair:

Supplies you’ll need: hairbrush, a few hair elastics, topsy tail, green ribbon, cute wreath decorations like a red bow or red ribbon and flowers.

Time: 7-10 minutes

Skill Level:  Easy

Step 1.  Begin by pulling the top of the hair back into an elastic – from the outer edge of each eyebrow back to the center crown of the head.

Step 2.  Optional step – take your topsy tail and flip that top ponytail under.

Step 3.  Take the hair from the top ponytail and divide it in half – braid each half into a regular 3 strand braid and secure with elastics.

Step 4.  Take the braids and pull them so that they form a circular shape, tuck the end of each braid up through the elastic from the other side’s braid.  You’ll have some hairs sticking out – that’s ok!

Step 5.  Take your piece of green ribbon and tuck one end through your top elastic.  Wrap that ribbon all the way around your base braided wreath and then when you reach the top again, tuck the other end through the top elastic.  Trim any excess off the ends of the ribbon with scissors.

Step 6.  Decorate your wreath!  I tied red ribbon at the top of mine.  I used silk craft flowers in the video and little silk roses for my photos (I’ve done this a few times!).  You don’t have to decorate it either, just do it how you like it!
