This Easy Side Rope Braid is one of my new favorites that I have been wearing a lot! I’m a busy mom – I don’t often have time to do a complicated style, especially on myself… I swear my little ones always know when I’m in the middle of an intricate style and take the opportunity to get into things and make the biggest messes! Does that happen to you too?!
I love that this style takes me less than 5 minutes to do, but it stays in nicely all day and is versatile as well. I’ve worn it around the house with the kids, out running errands, and even to the gym to workout. Add a little makeup and a cute outfit and this side rope braid makes one heck of an easy date night hairstyle too! I have also done this style for my girls, so it really is a hairstyle for all ages or occasions.
How To Do a Side Rope Braid:
Time to complete: 5 minutes
Skill Level: Easy
Step 2. Pick up a section of hair along your part line, beginning a couple of inches back from your face.
Step 3. Divide that hair into two strands. Give each strand a twist forward towards the face. Now cross the front strand back over the back strand.
Step 4. Pick up a small section of hair and add it to the front strand. Pick up a section of hair to add to the back strand.
Step 5. Now give both strands a twist again towards the face (counterclockwise). Then cross the front strand back over the back strand (clockwise).
Step 6. Continue like this, adding hair to both strands, twisting them both towards the face, then crossing the front strand over the back strand.
Step 7. Once you have added all the hair that is by your face, stop adding hair into the front section and only add hair into the back section.
Step 8. You will continue to twist both sections forward and cross them over one another going back.
Step 9. Once you have added all of your remaining hair, continue twisting and crossing to finish your rope braid and then secure with an elastic.
Step 10. Next pull on the top edges of your braid to exaggerate your braid and make it look more full and pretty. I like to start at the bottom and work my way up, pulling on each stitch of the braid as I go, then work my way down to finish this process called pancaking the braid.
Step 11. Finish with hairspray if you like.
Step 12. I always like to finish my side braids by pinning the back bottom of my hair to help it stay in place. I like a bobby pin under the bottom, then slide another pin in at another angle so that the two pins cross. This keeps them from sliding out throughout the day.
This style is classy, pretty and strong. It is amazing for day, evening, or even a semi-formal event.
