French Braids - lots of great tutorials and different French braided looks!

It’s day 1 of the 30 Day Braiding Challenge – 30 Days of New Braids!  Woo hoo!  I hope you all are as excited as I am, and I hope you are ready to try some new braids this month.

We are starting with a simple French braid.  Most of you probably know how to do a French braid.  If you do, try to do the best French braid you’ve ever done today.  Or, try to think of a new way that you can use the French braid in a hairstyle.  Push yourself to be creative and to sharpen your skills.

As I will be doing all month, I have found some great tutorials to share with you.  I want to share a tutorial for each style that shows the technique being done on someone else, a DIY tutorial, and then a couple of ideas for using that technique in different ways.  I hope that you guys enjoy this and I can’t wait to hear how your braiding skills grow over the next month!

The Technique

This tutorial that I did teaches the basic technique.  You can find my original post on the French braid here.

DIY Tutorial

DIY French braid tutorial from Luxy Hair.  She teaches you how to do a simple French braid on yourself.

Additional Ways to Use the Technique

French braided pigtail tutorial from Princess Hairstyles.  She shares helpful tips on how to hold the strands, for those of you who struggle with that.

Double French braids into a lace up braid tutorial by me.  This is a great way to get a more complicated look but with a simple technique.

French braid ponytail tutorial from Missy Sue.  This is a great style for every day.  It certainly gives you a more mature or grown up look, but it would still be great on little ones too!

Ornament Updo tutorial by me.  I did this tutorial at Christmas time as a subtle Christmas hairstyle, but it really is great for year round!

Here is one more look for you using French braids.  This one is also from Missy Sue (I just love her!).  You can find her tutorial for this wrap around French side braid here.

How will you style your French braid today?  Go for the classic, elegant look of a straight back French braid or dress it up and go for a more creative use of the technique.  I’d love to see how it comes out for you!  You can share a photo on my Facebook page, tag me in a photo on Instagram – @hair_by_lori or just use the hashtags #30DaysNewBraids #30DNBDay1.

Have you signed up for my email list yet?  You’ll receive an email every day so that you will get the daily challenge right in your inbox.
