Ornament Braid – Easy Christmas Hairstyle

Video Tutorial: The Ornament Braid

This post is part of my 12 Braids of Christmas series – be sure to check out all the festive styles in this series!

The holiday season gets busy!  With all of the Christmas events that we are headed to, sometimes you want a festive hairstyle but just don’t have the time to do one.  When you don’t have time – this ornament braid is the perfect Christmas hairstyle for you!  It only takes a few minutes to do, is very easy but is so different looking.  I love it!

This hairstyle was inspired by Princess Hairstyle’s Cookie Cutter Hairstyle – which is a little more detailed and gives you the look of two ornaments stacked in the braid.

Let’s get started on how to do this easy Ornament Braid Christmas hairstyle!

Supplies you’ll need: hairbrush, a couple hair elastics, and (optional) topsy tail

Time: 5 minutes or less

Skill Level:  Easy

Before you start:  If you are doing this hairstyle on curly hair – using a flat iron to straighten the hair that you are braiding will help to give you a more defined style.  You could leave the rest of the hair curly if you’d like.

Step 1.  Start by pull the hair half up and securing with an elastic.  If you like the hair wrapped ponytail look like I do, take a small section of hair from under the bottom of that ponytail, wrap it around the elastic a time or two, then use your topsy tail (preferred method) to pull the end of that section of hair through the elastic – or you can bobby pin it to hold it in lieu of pulling it through with the topsy tail.

Step 2.  Divide the hair from that ponytail into 3 sections and braid a couple of stitches of a 3 strand braid.

Step 3.  Continue braiding your 3 strand braid, but now feather out a small section of hair as you go from both sides for two stitches – so that you have a total of 2 pieces of hair hanging down.

Step 4.  Continue braiding your 3 strand braid, but now add those feathered pieces of hair back in as you braid, starting with the one that is closest to the stitch you are braiding (only add them back in on the same side as you feathered them out).

Step 5.  Continue braiding the hair out until you run out of hair, then secure with an elastic.

Step 6.  Go back up to those pieces you feathered out and gently pull on them so that they form your ornament shape.
