This post is part of my 12 Braids of Christmas series – be sure to check out all the festive styles in this series!
While tacky and over the top Christmas styles are fun to do sometimes (like seriously, soooo fun!), they aren’t for everyone and they certainly aren’t for all occasions. Sometimes you want an elegant and beautiful style for your holiday events. Today’s Ornament Updo is perfect if that’s what you’re looking for!
This Ornament Updo is the perfect subtle Christmas hairstyle. It’s so subtle that you really could wear it year round. It’s also perfect for all ages! From little girls to teens to moms, this easy updo is perfect for those holiday parties where you need to look more formal (or just anytime you don’t want a ribbon Christmas tree braided in your hair 😉 )
Time: 7-10 minutes
Skill Level: Easy
Step 2. Pick up a section of hair from the front on the left side and begin doing a French braid (detailed French braid tutorial here). Take your French braid straight back (not angled down at all) so that the braid sits only a couple of inches below your part line – stop adding hair in once you get to the middle of the center of the head. Continue braiding out a 3 strand braid and then secure with an elastic.
Step 3. Repeat step 2 on the right side of the head.
Step 4. Take the end of the braid from the left side of the head and loop it to form the right outer edge of your ornament, coil the end up and pin in place with bobby pins.
Step 5. Take the end of the braid from the right side and loop it to form the left outer edge of your ornament, then take the very end of the braid and tuck it up so that it sits in the center of your ornament. Pin in place with bobby pins.
Step 6. Finish with hairsprays, smooth any hairs that are sticking out.
I hope you will give this beautiful Ornament Updo a try! It’s a festive Christmas hairstyle without being over the top. I love it!
