Here I’ll share with you how to do the most basic braid – your standard three strand braid. A regular braid. I’m showing it to you with it starting in a ponytail because that is the easiest way to learn. Once you have it down, there are countless ways that you can use this braid.
Divide the hair into three sections.
Cross strand 1 over strand 2 so that it becomes the middle strand that you are holding. Left to right, you will have strand 2, strand 1, strand 3.
Take strand 3 and move it over strand 1 so that you are holding it in the middle. From left to right, you are holding strand 2, strand 3, strand 1.
Take strand 2 and move it over strand 3 so that it becomes the middle strand. Left to right, you are holding strand 3, strand 2, strand 1.
Take strand number 1 and move it over strand 2 so that it becomes the middle strand. From left to right, you are now holding strand 3, strand 1, strand 2.
Continue this pattern until you run out of hair, then secure with an elastic. Basically, you are alternating sides and always taking the outside strand and moving it to the middle. Once you understand this braid, you can move on to more difficult ones.
