Princess Kate inspired Rolled Rosette Updo

Princess Kate inspired Rolled Rosette half up and updo - such beautiful and easy styles for the holidays!

I am so excited to be collaborating on this week’s tutorial with my friend Shaunell from Pretty Hair is Fun!  Shaunell is mother to three wonderful girls and does fantastic hair tutorials on her blog and on her YouTube channel.  Make sure you check her out and give her a follow!

When Shaunell and I decided that we wanted to collaborate, we started looking around for hair style inspiration.  Shaunell found this photo (see below) of Princess Kate and shared it with me – we both agreed it was the perfect inspiration!

Shaunell is teaching how to do the half up hairstyle like Kate is wearing here and I am teaching how to transform the gorgeous half up style into an updo.  I love that this one is not only beautiful, but it’s easy to do!  I think that anyone could replicate this look.  It’s perfect for the holidays, date night, work, prom, and more!  I also think that it’s a great style for all ages.   Shaunell and I are both teaching styles on our daughters (her daughter Cetera is 12 and my daughter Hope is 9) so you can see how they look great on younger girls, but I think that these styles would be just as great for teens and moms alike.  Maybe you could even wear it as a matching mother – daughter style?  That would be so fun and cute!

How to do the Princess Kate inspired Half Up Hairstyle

Above is Shaunell’s tutorial for the half up look.  Once you’ve completed the half up style, you’re ready for my tutorial on transforming it into an updo!  It’s super easy to do, I know you’ll love it!

How to do the Princess Kate inspired Rolled Rosette Updo

Step 1.  Take the hair from the top most ponytail that is hanging down in the center and twist it then start to roll it so that it begins to curve around to create the rolled rosette – take a bobby pin and grab the edge of it and pin it down (before you’ve completed the full roll) then complete the rolled rosette and secure with pins along the edges.
Step 2.  Separate off a small section of hair from either side that is hanging down, either pin it out of the way or just lay it forward over her shoulders to keep out of the way temporarily.  Take the hair that remains in the center and create a messy bun.  Pin as needed so that it lays like you like it.
Step 3.  Take the hair on either side and create a loose rope braid, then go back and gently pull on it to make it a little messy before you secure it with an elastic.  Repeat this so that you have a loose, messy rope braid on both sides.
Step 4.  Take the rope braid on the right, drape it down around the bottom of the messy bun and then wrap it up and around on the left side and pin in place.
Step 5.  Take the rope braid on the left, drape it up and over the top of the messy bun and then wrap it around on the right side and pin in place.
Step 6.  Add any additional bobby pins that you may need if there are any hairs out of place and finish with hair spray if you’d like.
You’re done!
