Suspended Infinity Braid tutorials - great hairstyle ideas!

We are on to day 18 of our 30 Day Braiding Challenge – 30 Days of New Braids.

Today’s challenge is the suspended infinity braid.  This braid is often confused with the zipper braid ,which we did on day 16 of the challenge.  They are very similar but are a bit different in look and technique from one another.

Zipper Braid and Suspended Infinity Braid comparison

Take a look at this photo from the amazingly talented Braidsandstyles12 (On IG here and FB here).  Left is the zipper braid and right is the suspended infinity braid.  Can you see a difference?

The suspended infinity braid is actually easier to do than the zipper braid, which I’m sure will come as a relief to those of you that have been following along with the challenge and already did the zipper braid!  (That one was probably our hardest braid this month).  Let’s get to the tutorials that teach this awesome looking braid!

The Technique

DIY Tutorial

Suspended Infinity Braid on Yourself tutorial by Braidsandstyles12.  I love how easy she makes this braid look!  This is such an impressive looking one to wear out and tell people you did it on yourself!

Additional Ways to Style

Suspended Infinity Braid tutorial by Jenni’s Hairdays.  I love how this style wraps around the head!  It’s so beautiful!

Lace Suspended Infinity Braid tutorial by Miriam’s Vlecht Lessen.  This is a great unique half up hairstyle!

Zipper Braid Tutorial by Bebexo.  She calls this the zipper braid, but it is definitely the suspended infinity braid.  If you watched any of the tutorials from day 16 and compare them to the ones here today, you can see the difference.  I love how it looks just on the back of her head like this, so had to share this one!

Line Braid into a Side Ponytail tutorial by Chikas Chic.  This line braid is actually a variation of the suspended infinity braid – you could call it a “lace half suspended infinity braid” – but as that’s a mouthful, I say “line braid” is a great name for it!

Line Braid tutorial by Girlz Haircreations.  I know it’s not in English (and I’ve really tried to keep the tutorials I’ve shared thus far to English only) but this is such a cute idea!  I think if you watch you can pick up the technique even if you don’t understand what she is saying.  I love this braid as a headband braid.  Again, this is really a lace half-suspended infinity braid which is why it’s in today’s blog post!

While today’s braid is easier than the zipper braid, it is still one of the more advanced braids that we have covered thus far in our 30 Day Braiding Challenge, but I hope you stick with it and give it a try!  I’d love to see how you do today’s challenge if you want to share.  You can share a photo on my Facebook page, tag me in a photo on Instagram – @hair_by_lori or just use the hashtags #30DaysNewBraids #30DNBDay18.  Also, if you tried both the zipper braid and the suspended infinity braid – I’d love to hear which you prefer!

  1. Oh my gosh! I made the list! How exciting! Miss J laughed when I told her she is famous now. The back of her head made it on a blog 🙂 Thanks for choosing my photo. I had so much fun doing this challenge. It inspired me to try new braids and step out of my comfort zone. I even got up the courage to post my first ever love tutorial on Periscope this morning (at the request of someone who saw my 30 Days album on Facebook!)

  2. I can make the difference in outcome of zipper and suspended infinity…but not in the method/technique….pls help.

    1. Hi there! Glad you can tell the difference in looking at the two. Have you watched tutorials on how to do a zipper braid and on how to do a suspended infinity braid yet? The technique is different. Most people find the suspended infinity braid easier, as do I, but I do prefer the look of the zipper braid just a bit. Watch one of the tutorials on the zipper braid (http://hairbylori.com/zipper-braid.html) and then one of the tutorials on the the suspended infinity braid (http://hairbylori.com/suspended-infinity-braid.html) and let me know if you still don’t see the difference in technique. I feel like this one is easier explained in video than typed out, but if you are still unsure after watching the videos, then I will do my best to type it out for you! xo, Lori
